The US tax payment deadline has changed. Normally, if you have a tax payment due, you would need to pay your dues by April 15th, 2020. Failure to pay your tax dues will result in failure to pay penalty.
However, in response to the current status of the COVID-19 crisis. It has been extended to July 15, 2020.
COVID-19 Tax filing deadline details
As of March 21, the Internal Revenue Service announced that fillings and tax payment dues will be moved to July 15, 2020. This is without penalties and interest incurred regardless of the amount owed.
With no exceptions, this will apply to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, small business owners as well as self-employed individuals.
If you already filed your taxes and your expecting a refund, opt for a direct deposit instead of a physical check that will be mailed to you. Most tax refunds will be credited to your account within 21 days. If you know that you have a refund due and have not filed your taxes yet. File your returns as soon as possible to receive your refunds sooner.
California tax filing and payment moved
For the state of California announced the COVID-19 Extension to file and pay. Also moved to July 15, 2020. See schedule below:

All Californians are considered to be affected and filing extensions is adjusted. You don’t need to file anything to avail of the extension.
Refund status for Californians
Most tax refunds will arrive as scheduled but might take longer if you are expecting refunds sent to you via mail.

- Via Mail: 4 weeks or longer
You can check your CA tax refund status with the Franchise Tax Board website.
Prepare the following:
- Social Security Number
- Number in Mailing Address
- Zip Code
- Refund Amount (540 2EZ-line 29, 540-line 96, 540NR-line 103
If you have filed your state returns and have not received your refund. Your returns might be in review for accuracy by the state.
Extra processing times might be needed since staff with the Franchise Tax Board is observing social distancing to protect employees against coronavirus spread.
