If you filed your taxes for 2018-2019 and did not opt for a direct deposit chance are you haven’t received your stimulus payments under the CARES Act yet.
The U.S. government is issuing one-time payments of $1,200 per individual and $2,400 per married couple. Income thresholds will vary the amount an individual or couple can qualify.
According to the IRS, 80 million payments were made directly to bank accounts since last week. A Congress timeline estimates that 101 million stimulus payments will be made by paper check unless individuals updates their bank information on the Get My Payment IRS website.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin stated during the White House press conference last Tuesday, “We started sending out the checks.”
Beware of Stimulus Payment Scammers
While you’re waiting for your check fraudsters and scammers are waiting and ready as well.
The Secret Service and the IRS sent out information to warn Americans about counterfeit Treasury checks could be on its way to your mailbox.
There are certain security features that you need to be aware.
- Bureau of the Fiscal Service on the right of the statue of liberty.
- Watermark that reads “U.S. Treasury” when held up against a light source.
- Microprinting is located on the back of the check with the words “USAUSAUSA.”

DO NOT respond to emails asking to verify your information through a third-party website.
The IRS will also mail you a letter after 15 days of the receipt of the stimulus payment.
If you received the letter and did not receive the payment. call the IRS immediately.
